Bugling creature deserved my full attention.

 

The male was getting agitated

for his signal.

we pulled up at a lineup

of travelers’ cars

people out in the meadow

dangerously close

seemingly unafraid

of antlers that could ram and pierce

hooves that could slash.

suddenly the elk’s high pitch

bugling started their exit.

over the meadow

cross the road.

right ahead of our car.

best view in the house.

down the slope to the stream
